Peel, wash and dice potatoes.
3 lbs potatoes
Place diced potatoes into a medium/large size soup pot. Fill pot with water until potatoes are covered.
Cook potatoes over medium to high heat, about 15-20 minutes, until fork tender.
Drain out the water then place potatoes back into the pot.
Add in remaining ingredients and cook on medium heat until milk is bubbling around the edges of the pot, about 5-10 minutes.
4 ½ c milk, 6 tbsp butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder
Taste to see if you want to add in anymore seasonings, then ladle into bowls and serve! Sprinkle with some shredded cheese, bacon pieces or anything other topping if desired!
